“Fewer stoppages, more control: what ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 bring to your plant”

More than a certificate: what do ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 bring to our customers?

When we talk about ISO certifications, it is easy to focus on the certificate, the seal, or the audit. But for those of us working in industry, what really matters is what lies behind them and what they bring to the customer.

At KAUMAN, we manufacture rubber conveyor belts for industrial applications, where product consistency, process control, and the responsible management of our operations are essential factors.

That is where ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 take on real meaning.

ISO 9001 sets out the requirements for a quality management system focused on controlling processes, meeting applicable requirements, responding to customer expectations, and continuously improving. The new 2026 edition maintains these principles and places greater emphasis on issues such as leadership, quality culture, ethical behaviour, and the management of risks and opportunities.

ISO 14001 does the same from an environmental perspective. It provides a framework for identifying and managing the environmental aspects of our operations, addressing risks, complying with applicable legal requirements, and progressively improving environmental performance. The 2026 edition also reinforces issues such as climate change, biodiversity, resource efficiency, and impact across the value chain.

What does this mean in a conveyor belt factory?

In an industrial activity like ours, these systems cannot remain limited to written procedures.

Manufacturing a conveyor belt involves managing raw materials and rubber formulations, mixing, calendering, and vulcanisation processes, product controls, technical specifications, suppliers, measuring equipment, waste, and consumption, among many other aspects.

For this reason, applying ISO 9001 means working under defined processes, established controls, traceability, monitoring of results, management of deviations, and a continuous improvement system.

ISO 14001 adds an environmental perspective to that same industrial management: identifying and controlling the environmental aspects associated with our activities and establishing mechanisms to assess and improve our performance.

It does not mean that a deviation can never occur. It means something more realistic and, for us, more valuable: that there is a system in place to prevent it, detect it, analyse it, and act on its causes.

More than 25 years working under certified management systems

Our commitment to these systems is not recent.

KAUMAN obtained its initial certification in both management systems in 2000.

Since then, our management systems have evolved alongside the standards themselves. ISO 9001 went through the 2008 and 2015 versions, leading to the recently published ISO 9001:2026. ISO 14001 evolved from the 2004 and 2015 editions to the current ISO 14001:2026. For both updated versions, we are already working on updating our integrated management system to incorporate the new requirements and undertake the corresponding certification transition.

This is because a management system is not maintained only when an external audit takes place. We carry out regular internal audits to verify that it is working properly, identify improvement opportunities, and ensure that the requirements remain integrated into our day-to-day activities.

Quality that is also demonstrated in demanding applications

Our certification system also goes beyond ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

KAUMAN holds product certifications issued by the Official Laboratory J. M. Madariaga for belts intended for mining applications.

Ultimately, behind all these certifications lies the same philosophy: control what we do, measure it, learn from the results, and keep improving.

Because for our customers, a certification has value when it translates into solid industrial processes, controlled products, compliance with requirements, and long-term trust.
